Course Overview

Overview  

The Master of Business Administration (CRICOS Course Code: 117338B) is a post graduate degree that aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills required for sustainable management of business organisations, government agencies and the not-for-profit sector in a holistic manner.  

The course uses strategies that enable students to develop problem-solving and decision-making skills relevant and indeed vital in business environments at all levels of individual engagements at the personal and institutional levels. The aim of the NAPS MBA is for graduates to also have knowledge and skills to manage their time and effort to strike a life-work balance.  

The Degree comprises 16 subjects with 4 subjects per trimester. Each trimester will comprise 13 weeks of face-to-face classes, and one-week end of session exam period.   
 

The MBA is designed with content and learning activities that engage with advanced knowledge and inquiry consistent with AQF Level 9 Learning Outcomes.  

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of fundamental business principles in managing business, to develop an advanced body of knowledge in a range of contexts for professional practice.  
  • Apply critical thinking and research skills to business issues by investigating and synthesising complex information and concepts and applying established theories to different bodies of knowledge or practice.  
  • Exhibit high level written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills required to manage and lead contemporary business, including skills to justify and interpret theoretical propositions, methodologies, conclusions and professional decisions to specialist and non-specialist audiences.  
  • Demonstrate the application of problem-solving knowledge and skills, creativity to make evidence-based decisions in professional practice with a high level of personal autonomy and accountability.  
  • Apply a body of knowledge that includes the understanding of recent developments of sustainability to effectively tackle emerging global business trends and challenges.  
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaborative skills required to achieve desired business outcomes with creativity and initiative.  
  • Use cognitive skills to critique a range of contemporary social, economic, political, and cultural factors affecting contemporary business, demonstrating mastery of theoretical knowledge and reflecting critically on theory and professional practice or scholarship.  
  • Demonstrate the ability to reflect on one's capacity for personal accountability and leadership, with the skills to generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level.  

 

Modes of Delivery  

The course will be delivered by face-to-face lectures supplemented with online materials through Moodle (NAPS eLearning) to be accessible on and off campus. There will be 3-hours of face-to-face teaching per week for all units, consisting of 2 hours of lectures and 1 hour of tutorials, with each class being 50 minutes per teaching time and a 10-minute break per hour. Delivery will further include online activities—discussion groups, seminars, webinars etc to take advantage of expertise outside that we can bring into the classroom. This mode of delivery will enrich student experience and engagement and provide opportunities for developing skills and engaging with content. It will also maximise lecturer-student interaction and facilitate students’ achievements of learning outcomes. Being on campus would enable students to access campus resources such as the library and internet to aid their learning

Classes will comprise lectures, seminar-type discussions, and presentations. Students will be required to complete essential reading and any related assigned tasks before each class in order to be able to participate fully in discussions. Lecturers will use electronic presentations whenever possible.
